OH HEY.

We didn't see you there...

...we were just showing our large friend here how clean our teefers are after celebrating Pet Dental Health Month, but more on that laters on the menjay. We've got some very important business to discuss with you first:

ST. PATRICK - THE PATRON SAINT OF PATS

known for leaving no dog unpatted. On the 17th of March we honor him along with good bois and gurls everywhere with an entire day dedicated to pats. We recommend getting lots of practice in before the big day. In other very important (& way more exciting) news

WE'VE MET SOMEONE

Family... this is Portside Veterinary Hospital. They're new in town, but it's been a match made in doggie heaven from the moment we met.

DR. PATRICK JONES comes from a family of vets & married one as well. It was his love for Lowcountry that brought him & his family here & what helped drive him to open Portside Veterinary Hospital.

Along with her vast experience in cardiology, dental cleanings, education & teaching, CHRIS is also the Practice manager. I think every team needs a Chris TBH.

SYDNEY's passion lies in the physical rehabilitation of the animals. Ok seriously? These women are fab.

ALLIE will be there when your buddy goes to sleep & when he wakes up again. Her niche is anesthesia & surgery. Kudos to this strong woman, couldn't pay me enough.

AMANDA holds down the front desk. She's the ever-friendly face or voice on the phone no matter how many times you need to check on your little furball...yes, even if it's the 15th time that day.

Periodontal disease is the most common dental condition in dogs. By the time your pup is 3 years old, they will likely have some early evidence of periodontal disease, which will only worsen with age if preventive measures aren’t taken. Periodontal disease doesn’t just affect your pet’s mouth. Other health problems found in association with periodontal disease include liver, kidney, and heart muscle changes. The treatment of periodontal disease involves a thorough dental cleaning and radiographs may be needed to determine the severity of the disease.

It's all about the Bennys.

In honor of National Pet Dental Health Month (February) Portside Vet is offering $100 off doggie dental procedures for WDU newsletter subscribers now through March, to include digital dental radiographs. Your pup will also be sent home with a dental report card Hello anxiety, my old friend..., before/after photos of their teeth, a goodie bag with dental treats & follow-up care information.

PSST! Don't forget, C.C. breaks down how to brush your dog's teeth over on WDU YOUTUBE.

QUICK TIPS

Q: As a veterinarian at Portside Vet Hospital, what is the one piece of advice you wish you could tell all new puppy parents if only you had a loud enough bullhorn?

DR. JONES:

That's easy. Get pet insurance.

SCROLL N' LEARN

Why we ❤️ it:

With as much time as we spend scrolling on social media, we might as well get something positive out of it (and no, those knockoff Yeezy's don't count.) If we may be SO BOLD as to suggest actually learning something while you doomscroll your life away until 3am. Try giving Portside Veterinary Hospital a follow on INSTAGRAM or FACEBOOK. More than just irresistibly adorable pets, they actually post useful stuff all pet-parents should know.

What We're Binge [Drinking] This Month

THIS BUD'S FOR YOU🍺
(NOT for Buddy)

Why we ❤️ it:

During this oh holiest month of celebratory drinking holidays we're giving you some floofy cocktail recipes to try for yourself. While these drinks are certainly more fun when shared with friends, please only share them with your human cohorts... these dogtails are not Fido-friendly.

🍹 THE REGAL BEAGLE
  • 1.5 oz vodka
  • 2 lime wedges
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 5 oz grapefruit juice
  • Splash dry white wine

Muddle lime with honey and add ice. Pour vodka and grapefruit juice over the top and add a splash of wine. Stir a bit. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary.

🍹 THE COLORADO BULLDOG
  • 1.25 oz Vodka
  • .75 oz Kahlúa
  • 1/4 c whole milk or half-and-half
  • Splash of Coca-Cola

Mix vodka, Kahlua, and milk one at a time in an old-fashioned glass 2/3 full of cubed ice. Top with a splash of coke. Serve this dog cocktail with Stir-Stick.

🍹 THE PINK POODLE
  • 1.5 oz. vanilla vodka
  • Splash of Grenadine syrup
  • 7-Up® soda

Pour the vanilla vodka and a splash of grenadine over ice and then fill the rest of the glass with 7-up. Top with a cherry for the finale.

🍹 BICHON FRISE COCKTAIL
  • 1 oz vodka
  • 1 oz. St-Germain elderflower liqueur
  • 2 oz. ruby red grapefruit juice
  • 1 lemon wedge

Combine vodka, St-Germain elderflower liqueur, and ruby red grapefruit juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice then squeeze lemon. Add lemon wedge to the shaker; shake and strain then pour into chilled glass.

BEFORE WE GO [GO]

Our VETting process

If you haven't noticed, we don't bring many people home to meet our WDU family (that's you!) So it's kind of a big deal when we do. Don't worry, they go through a thorough vetting process. So, just call us Anderson Cooper because we got the scoop-er (yeah we don't get it either, it just rhymed ok?) We hit Dr. Jones with some hard-hitting investigative journalism to really get to know him. No softballs here.
